The Hoover Board of Education announced Melynda Buck as the district’s new Chief School Financial Officer (CSFO). With 20 years of experience in school finance and 16 years in the banking industry, she brings a wealth of expertise to the role. Her extensive background in financial management and commitment to fiscal responsibility will continue to support the district’s mission of providing high-quality education for all students.

Since 2020, Buck has served as the Accounting Director for Hoover City Schools, overseeing budgeting, grant management, and financial reporting. Before joining Hoover, she held financial leadership roles in Chilton County and Elmore County Schools, managing multi-million-dollar budgets, ensuring compliance with state and federal regulations, and optimizing financial operations to support student success.

“We are incredibly excited to have Melynda step into this leadership role,” said President Kermit Kendrick, Hoover City Schools Board of Education. “She has been a dedicated member of our team, and her deep knowledge of school finance, strategic planning, and commitment to excellence make her the perfect fit. I have no doubt that her leadership will continue to strengthen our district’s financial foundation and positively impact our students, staff, and community.”

As CSFO, she will oversee the district’s financial operations, ensuring compliance with generally accepted accounting principles and governmental accounting standards. She will prepare and post the annual school system budget and financial reports, ensuring financial transparency. Additionally, she will manage school payroll, oversee the financial operations of the child nutrition program and special programs in alignment with state and federal requirements, and supervise business and financial personnel to maintain efficiency and accountability in the district’s financial management.

Buck is a Certified Administrator of School Finance and Operations (SFO), a distinction awarded by the Association of School Business Officials (ASBO) International to recognize expertise in school finance and fiscal leadership. She received her bachelor's and master's degrees in business administration from Faulkner University.

“I am honored to serve as the Chief School Financial Officer for Hoover City Schools,” Melynda Buck said. “Hoover has a long-standing tradition of excellence, and I am excited to continue supporting our students, teachers, and community by ensuring strong financial stewardship. I look forward to working alongside our dedicated team to help provide the best educational opportunities for our students and schools.”

Buck will assume the CSFO position following the retirement of Michele McCay, who has dedicated 23 years of service to the district.

Hoover City Schools is proud to have Melynda Buck’s leadership in continuing the district’s strong financial foundation and supporting student success.
